Is Adultery an Act of Love?

26th May 2009

enlightened-heartAs part of the Ten Commandments series, we asked this question:

If you really love someone, would you commit adultery with him (or her)?

The Bible holds the answer. The Ten Commandments are the illumination of the Law of Love.  Listen to this 15 minute discussion for the vital answer.  According to Exodus 20, our entire society will go into bondage if we get this answer wrong.

The Grace to Stand

15th May 2009

As you probably know, Heritage Christian School, a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, has been featured in news reports all over the world. (Even our missionaries in the Far East have told us that the reports showed up in their newspapers!) These news reports have induced hundreds of emails featuring compliments, complaints, criticism and corruption. As a result of inquiries from their co-workers, many members of our congregation have had opportunities to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

We would like to thank all of you who loved us enough to care about our success. In due time, I will try to respond to your e-mails. As you probably know, litigation may be pending, so I will not be able to address your specific questions or recommendations about our approach or procedures.

I do want you to know that the Lord has shown Himself to be faithful to us. Would you please pray for us as we pursue the goal of the Gospel of Luke, chapter 6, verses 27 through 36? These are the Words of the Lord Jesus Christ:

“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.

To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.

Give to everyone who asks of you and from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back and just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.

And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back.

But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.”

Luke 6:27-36

Several years ago, when I was preaching through the Life of Christ (from the Gospels), I derived this principle from passages such as Luke 6:

“Be what you want them to become,

or you will become what they are.”

If you have access to the Throne of Grace, would you please pray for us that we would “be what we want others to become?” And please pray for those who have used us and our reputation for their own agendas.

Sincerely,

Pastor Gordon Dickson, Senior Pastor, Calvary Baptist Church, Findlay, Ohio

Thank You!

9th May 2009

Thank you for your kind notes of encouragement!

Remember that Jesus Christ said,

“Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.

Rejoice and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets before you.”
